hard reset

I'm having issues where my phone doesn't show visual text notification or a sound notification. I want to hard reset the phone before I go for a replacement. Should I remove the sim card first?

I've can't recall ever taking the SIM card out of my GSM phones on a hard reset.

I wouldn't think so, but I can't imagine pulling it out would hurt anything on a hard reset other than warning you your SIM card is missing and you can only make emergency calls.
