Ok, this one is really weird. I am a techie mom trying to help my daughter. We each have a Yoga 13, and she is home from college for the summer, so last night I set about updating her to Windows 8.1 and all the new drivers from Lenovo. Not only would this get her up to date, but would hopefully solve the problems she was having with her SkyDrive program not syncing properly.

After the update, she had two OneDrive folders--I assume they are the old (now renamed) one and the new Win 8.1 one. To confirm this, I signed into her OneDrive in IE. ***As soon as I did this, Facebook messages from her boyfriend started showing up as notifications in the browser--modern-looking ones, though clearly from outlook.com and NOT from Windows.*** I realized what was happening and closed the browser till we can figure out how to turn them off.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that! I can't even reproduce them when I'm signed into my own account on my own PC. My daughter is only using a browser to access Facebook--she doesn't even have the Facebook modern app installed. I'd like to continue offering her help without invading her privacy. Any suggestions?

Yes (mine is with mine as well), and we really don't want to change that because she uses them both on Windows Phone as well. I'd like to find which setting is relevant to copy from my PC setup to hers.

You can turn off the Facebook chat integration through Outlook, and still retain the rest of the Facebook integration.

Sign in to Outlook or OneDrive, and then click on your profile picture in the top right and click "Account Settings." Then click "Related accounts," then "Manage other accounts." Under Facebook, click "Edit." Uncheck "Chat with Facebook friends," click save, and you should be good.

So... I tried that on her PC. I see the setting you described, but when I tried to change and save it, the notifications continued. I went back into her account settings, and they were back the way they had been. Tried again but the changes won't save. I also checked my own account settings, and Facebook chat is checked on mine, but I'm not getting those notifications. This is so weird! Any other ideas? Thanks! :)

Success! We checked all the other Facebook options and left ONLY Facebook chat unchecked. For some reason, that worked. :)
