Hot on the heels of yesterday's Mass Effect: Andromeda news, it now seems another beloved single-player IP is on the ropes.
Publisher Square Enix announced today that they are severing ties with IO Interactive, famed for the Hitman franchise.
Hitman launched episodically this time around, presumably so Square Enix could offset risk by funding development over time, rather than upfront. Hitman also enjoyed multiple content drops and dynamic, on-going content in the form of elusive targets, which injected new assassinations into existing missions. Despite strong critical reception, it looks like the experiment has failed.
