How can I get music from my computer to my phone?

I am having trouble transferring my music from my computer to my phone. It shows that it is connected to my computer. When I click on it it opens up a blank window that I cannot drag and drop anything into. Is there a step that I am missing. Or am I going about it the wrong way?

I tried syncing it with Windows Media Player but it cannot find my phone to sync with it. I tried downloading the app... it tells me that it cannot download this program on server run devices.

Maybe your phone is locked, trying entering the PIN after plugging it in. Otherwise, what operating system are you using?
