I had that same issues when I cracked my Icon (RIP), but I enabled OneDrive backups. Strangely enough, I could keep taking pictures even if I couldn't see anything on the screen thanks to the camera button. After a few minutes, it would show up on my laptop. It's not much help now, but maybe it's a good suggestion for next time. It never hurts to be prepared.
