Run my Chat App in background

I am developing a chat application using XMPP framework, i am able to login to my email and got my contacts from rosteritems, but the problem i am facing is when i move the app to background the active connection gets disconnected.
how can i make my app run active in background and receive chat messages using push notifications, i am not asking for exact answer
i just want suggestion or link where i can find the idea how to implement as all IM application in Windows Phone.
i am working for gtalk client
