How can I stop forced updates from freezing my computer and forcing a hard restart?

Everytime I am playing a game (ex. League of Legends or Ark: survival evolved) and the forced update comes it freezes my computer, which requires me to hard reset it. I have automatic updates turned off and I schedule when regular updates come.
