How can I transfer all of my data from my broken phone to my new identical phone?

Broke phone, transfer everything to identical, new phone

I posted something similar in the Q&A section without an account and it didn't get me anywhere really. Plus I couldn't respond to the one post I got. So I registered and am trying this again:

I broke the screen on my Lumia 925. Bought a replacement and have them both here. They are identical. I did all the backups on my old device, and when the new one was set up, I restored it to those backups. Settings and apps transferred fine.

Then I fired up the Transfer My Data app. It gave me a message that my Windows Phone would only let me transfer contacts. Why? I now need to transfer my texts and all videos/pics to the new phone.

Photos/videos:

- Shouldn't OneDrive be syncing my two phones with respect to photos/videos? All my camera roll stuff is uploaded to the cloud (verified on computers). Why doesn't my camera roll stuff from my old phone show up on my new one? I guess I could manually transfer things but I shouldn't have to.

Texts:
Text backup is on. And yet after running all the backups and restores on the new phone, my texts start at March of 2013. So old. Any thoughts?

Hopefully someone has some ideas. The apps/settings backup is great, and the contact transfer is fine. Why in the world can't we expand this capability to texts and photos?

Thanks!

Your pictures and videos may not physically be in your new phone, but they're there in the OneDrive app. That's kinda the point of OneDrive, why use space on your phone if you don't have to. But, if you really want to download them, you can do it from the OneDrive app or by using your PC and the Windows Phone app which will probably be faster.

Neither my photos or videos show up in the OneDrive app on the new phone. It's totally empty in all albums. Everything shows up fine on computer version of OneDrive. What's up with that?

On the OneDrive app, did you sign in with your Microsoft account?

Re: Broke phone, transfer everything to identical, new phone

After reverting back to 8.1 from 10 my photos were missing. Once I explored around OneDrive I found the photos in a folder. Then they showed up on my phone where they belonged.

Turns out the texts needed the other phone to be on to transfer to the new phone. So the reason I was seeing really old texts was because the backup process hadn't completed, I guess.

OneDrive app does show my stuff, I just wish it was moved to the Camera Roll. I know that's technically showing what's on the phone, but it would be nice to make this transition totally seamless by getting all the OneDrive camera roll photos onto the phone so it shows up where it should.

It works that way when you swapping phones that have SD cards and you're saving the pictures to said card. That's what I did when I went from my 822 to my 830. Took the 822's card, popped into the 830 and done! And they do go to the camera roll in the Photos app.
