How do I bring back to the home screen the icon of Whatsapp which vanished after an upgrade?

Recently the whatsapp app recommended an upgrade which I did. After that, the icon of whatsapp can't be seen on the home screen, though it can be launched from the fastlane. But even after using it the icon is not seen and I can use it only on fastlane.
How do I bring the icon back?
