How do I eject a USB drive in Windows 10?

Ejecting USB drive in windows 10

The first time I try to eject a USB drive I always get the message "This device is currently in use...." I can remove the USB drive on the second try. I close the program that used the USB drive before I try to eject it, but it always takes two tries. This happens on my laptop and PC.

I've never ejected a usb drive for years and years now.
just wait for the light to stop flashing and pull it out.
