How do I get 8.1 on my lumia 810?

Since my WIN8.1 laptop is only 32 bit instead of 64 bit I cannot get the preview.

Getting WP8.1 preview is not dependent upon what your computer is running.

You need to sign up for a developer account, then download the Preview App to your phone from the Windows phone store. From there you do a check for updates on the phone.

You need to make an account on app studio.

You can make it for free. Search for windows phone app studio on google. Then choose create a new project. Then enter your id which you are using on your phone.

Then download preview for developers app from the app store and use your windows id in it which you are using on your phone.

Then head on settings, phone update and check for updates. Now you can get the update.

In total you will get 3 updates including wp8.1 update if you have wp8.

I had downloaded the preview for developers to my phone and clicked on "learn more" where it took me to MS for the different ways to get the update - told me to connect phone to computer, download some app, where at that point, I got a message that it couldn't do that because of my system being 32 bit, etc..etc..

It seems I can't complete the update without WIFI. I have plenty of data available, so if there is a way to use cellular....

This update requires around 1.2 GB of data. I don't think so that wasting this much amount of cellular data would be good for anyone
Perhaps, you should for a wifi.

I think you can update phone only on Wi-Fi but you can try one thing, I think this should work, go to data sense app, in limit option choose unlimited, then check for phone update.


There are in total three updates including wp8.1 update. Two updates are necessary in order to download wp8.1 update which you will get after registering from preview for developers app.

Update 1: Approx 10 MB

Update 2: Again 10 MB

WP 8.1 update: 646 MB ( I am sure about this figure as I get notification of it because I was having less space on my phone).

So, in total you need approx 670 MB.
