Notification sounds for SMS and email seem somwhat borked on Build 10586.164.

Use your Feedback App. A fix should be getting pushed soon, we hope.

Go to: Settings>Privacy>Background apps. Make sure the 'Messaging + Skype' button is switched to 'On'. I had the same problem for the first few months of having the phone and it was REALLY annoying. Thankfully I discovered the solution while going through my settings menu, and after switching the button from 'Off' to 'On' it now works perfectly!

Thank you very much on behalf of my wife and me. I had bought a lumia 550 for her as a present and she could not receive my text messages until now.
