How do I get my personal pics back on start???

After downloading a "critical update", my personal pictures no longer are on my start screen. Instead, there are random,generic photos. I want my personal pictures visible on my start screen!

What device are you referring to?

In Windows Phones, you can choose to shuffle the images being displayed in the live tile on the start screen by going to your phone settings / < applications > / "shuffle now".

Do the photos still appear in the Camera Roll folder on your phone or is that now empty? I had this issue after a hard reset. I wasn't aware the photos shuffling on the live tile, as executed in the post above, don't show OneDrive photos too. The reset put stock, colorful photos on the phone and personal photos were lost but still exist in OneDrive, since I always keep the upload to OneDrive option selected in Photos.

That how it's supposed to work, hard reset remove everything, and Photos app will only show photos that available locally.

You will need to connect OneDrive to your phone again. To do this go to OneDrive app and log in. Then go to camera roll and swipe to albums, look for OneDrive and wait for the folders to load. Then final step go to Settings, swipe to Applications, Camera + Photos and then chose whatever you need eg favourite pictures, single photo, or all photos. Tap shuffle and it should work for you then.
