There are nice fast and free 3rd party QR scanners in the Store
I use QR Code Reader

Yup, you need an app for that now. Kinda stupid but whatever. I use the one with the purple logo, claims to be the most beautiful QR app for Windows, IDK the exact name. It works well for me, you can even make your own codes.
