Under Settings/Update & Security/For Developers, check Developer mode
you can now sideload your developed apps using Windows Phone SDK.

If you want to take this a step further you can interop unlock your phone if you follow the steps here.
You need to use the latest vcREG app from here. That allows you to sideload a lot more, including registry editors, etc.
