How do I solve a handshake error?

I downloaded pdanet+ to share an Android's Internet with a Dell Inspiron. The PC kept saying that I should use the tray icon, but that didn't help. I went around and around with it. When I finally gave up, I was informed of a "handshake error". What is this and how do I fix it?
