Yeah, this is my second thread in 5 minutes, but it's a completely different question/topic.

How much do you have your email accounts set to download? I just switched from 7 days old to All, and it is still downloading. I was wonder if there is a "best practices" for smartphones.

I use gmail. Does search work? Do you have to set it to "All" in order to use search?

i never have more then the last 7 dayz when i sync cause i have over 200 e-mails in my account just siting there. and i dont want them in my phone lol

Personal email...no more than 7 days....
Work email...no more than 3 days.....

I get way too much to try and sync all of it to my phone.....

Both accounts are set for all. I never know when I am going to need to search for an email from 3 months ago. It has happened to me a few times.

Yep, I think I will actually leave it at "Any Time". It took quite a while to download it, but it weighs in at under a gig. Not too worried about space. I used search and found some old emails. That is going to be quite handy.

i may do this... does it slow the actual email app down any?

The standard inbox screen feels as fast as ever.

However, if you want to look for truly old stuff you have to go to the All Mail folder and search from there. It can be kind of slow. And I'm wondering if it's searching locally or hitting Gmail's server, which would be stupid.

Does anyone know if the search function within email looks at locally downloaded emails or does it go to gmail's server?

If you are using Exchange 2007 then you can of course since the mango update simply search your Exchange mailbox. This means I am happy with the defaults. That said even on my old WiMo days I managed my entire mailbox and it never seemed to affect the phone in any way assuming you have the space.

In fact with my mailbox now being a BPOS account, My Music being Zune Pass and Microsoft Skydrive looking after the rest the 12gig of free space is actually pretty redundant full stop.
