How often do live tiles update?

I don't always have an internet connection. I usually avoid using mobile data. So my live tiles almost never update. However, when i DO connect to wifi, they still don't update. I usually have my phone connected for a couple of hours, but the tiles don't update on their own. I have "run in background" allowed for them too. Bing weather, Bing sports, Cortana, WPCentral - all these apps are pinned to my start screen, wide tile, with background activity allowed. But they just don't update unless i open the app. Is there anything else i should be doing?

Usually they update after 30 min
