How to access the 360 friends/party menu on Xbox One?

When I play my backwards compatible games online with friends, I can never seem to figure out how to invite them to a party, open their messages, join their party, accept invites, etc. Is there a way to use the Xbox One's home button like the 360 home button, instead of going to the One dashboard? Or something I'm missing?

Press the two buttons around the guide button, cant remember what they are called but were start and back last Gen or "start and select", at the same time.
