How to do "display mirroring" - will this MHL cable work - what about Miracast "wireless" support?

<<< The DEEPER I got into this, the more I realized that I was really trying to MIRROR the display to a 1080p HDTV in our conference room and at some customers + HOME uses as well ... so, I modified the whole topic after reading HOW AWESOME Miracast is ... and included in Windows 8.1 >>>

Some business friends were showing off and bragging how they can "mirror" their Galaxy video screens with their 1080p HDTV = VERY, VERY COOL!!

Anyway, I found this HDMI alternative, MHL: Your phone

I also read thaat nearly EVERY smartphone is compatible with the proper cable ... like this

Amazon.com: Skiva 6.5 feet MHL (Micro USB) to male HDMI cable (with 6.5 feet USB cable) for Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Infuse 4G, HTC Evo 3D, EVO view 4G, Flyer , Sensation 4G, Epic 4G Touch, Rezound, Vivid, Amaze 4G (HD-X2): Cell

Re: Will this MHL to HDMI cale work with the Nokia 928 ?

It appears that very few people even understand what most Android phones "can do" that WP8 "CAN NOT". I have had the Nokia Lumia 928 on Verizon from Day 1 ... and simply LOVE IT!!! It is the most awesome smartphone I have EVER USED! So, during a recent discussion with friends ... they showed me "MHL" ... and I was literally blown away. I didn't think much about "whether WP8 had it or not" ... UNTIL, I needed it for an upcoming business meeting = BUMMER !

In case you also think this should be added as a feature ... please vote here ...

Many connectivity features missing in wp8

Re: Will this MHL to HDMI cale work with the Nokia 928 ?

I believe that WP8 can do this, after all both Nokia and Microsoft share the live input from their demo phones in press conferences regularly using the USB input. I can't for the life of me figure out why they seem to only want to allow themselves to do it and not Joe public!

Re: Will this MHL to HDMI cale work with the Nokia 928 ?

Great point Muessig ... we are a Microsoft Partner and, in fact 9 months ago, asked if we could get this ... and were told "only for Microsoft INTERNAL USE".

Does anyone know how to get this functionality?

Re: Will this MHL to HDMI cale work with the Nokia 928 ?

Any ideas for the Nokia 928 to do this ... I've struck out !!!

Re: How to do "display mirroring" - will this MHL cable work - what about Miracast "wireless" suppo

If the above means the 928 supports Miracast I would imagine a future update would enable it. Maybe GDR3 or "blue". I know Windows 8.1 has Miracast support baked in if the device supports it.

Re: How to do "display mirroring" - will this MHL cable work - what about Miracast "wireless" suppo

Hello, hope this is relevant. Got new mircast 3d tv yesterday. Downloaded the 'Play To' app, linked the devices through the wireless router, and broadcast video and pics to the tv. Its not well documented tho. Have not sorted getting the tv top play on the 710 yet. Apologies if not relevant.

Re: How to do "display mirroring" - will this MHL cable work - what about Miracast "wireless" suppo

I read play to supports all kinds of TV's if they are on the network over Ethernet.

yes it does. tv has to be on the same network and it broadcasts thru the network to the tv. been using it for awhile to display the photos and videos....but this doesn't do what Mircast should be doing... AKA your screen to the bigger screen (TV). Would like to see the entire screen be able to broadcast to the TV or larger screen, not just photos, videos.

Re: How to do "display mirroring" - will this MHL cable work - what about Miracast "wireless" suppo

Play To is DLNA, not Miracast. It supports sending video, audio, or photo content to many (DLNA-capable) receiver devices.

Also, the Miracast-certified list does not include any Nokia products. You're looking at the "Wifi-Direct" certified list, not the Miracast-certified list. The Miracast list is a subset of the Wifi Direct devices.

That's not to say that the phone isn't capable in hardware, we don't actually know that. Windows Phone 8 itself is not capable of Miracast though.

Similarly, Windows 8 doesn't have Miracast support. However, in Windows 8.1, they add it. Because of this, I'm hopeful that we'll see Miracast in Windows Phone 8.1 as well.

However, as of now, it is not possible to mirror your phone to another display.
