How to Turn Nokia Maps OFF once you are at your destination??

Hello!
I really do like my Nokia Lumia 822 WP8!

However, I don't know how to turn off Nokia Maps when I get to my destination. I am almost ready to uninstall, because it keeps alerting me and trying to find a route. I am sure its wearing down my batteries, and its also tracking me in a way I dont want to be tracked. Help please?

The only thread I saw that was near this was how to get Nokia Maps to clear history, not to actually stop it.

Hit the back button until it exits the app. This is applicable to all apps.
