I get email notifications from my calendar entries and find that completely unnecessary. I have checked every place in settings and do not know where this would be. Google did not help either.

Happened to me yesterday as well. Its on the web, go to your live settings for your calendar and the emaill notificaion option should be there. You may have to go to the overall calendar settings and enable the new reminders, but after that you should see the options in your individual calendar settings to disable the emails.
