In short, one cannot simply upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system without a clean install.

No, compatibility mode will not let you run 64-bit programs in a 32-bit OS.

You would have to install the OS from scratch. It's not really risky - it depends on how comfortable you are with computers.

What would prevent you from doing a clean install? What files would she need to preserve? Of course if it's HER PC then she get's the final say regardless

there's no way to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, you need to do a clean install using the 64bit OS version

i suggest you backup the important stuff to the cloud or an external HD, install 64bit, then put your stuff back

You need 64-bit install media. Specifically an image that says its "x64" or "64-bit" not "x86" or "32-bit."
Also a pain-free clean install takes some preparation, and installing updates after that will take a while. (you'll need to get a patch to speed up updating. NOT a program, but Here's how to significantly speed up Windows 7 scans for updates | InfoWorld)

Also, I was a kid too once, did you get permission? And Planet Coaster hasn't launched yet and Roller-coaster Tycoon World has mostly negative reviews on Steam.
Go for Undertale or something.
