True, that.
However, consider this. I choose not to void my warranty by installing a preview that may or may not be able to be uninstalled if necessary, or even work right.
What I would like to see is Microsoft place some pressure on carriers to get the update out in a timely manner, rather than advertise future features. Windows Phone is not in a position to annoy its existing customer base.
The 8.1 Update 1 is only for those who are using the 8.1 Developer Preview and yes I believe it voids the warranty if you use the DP. Your carrier still has you on 8 but hey you should be happy about the fact that while you're still in 8, Microsoft is already working on a new update for 8.1.
It doesn't void your warranty. If you feel uncomfortable with having WP8.1 when claiming warranty services, then revert to WP8.0 with the Nokia Software Recovery Tool.
In the meantime... why would you get 8.1 dp? As soon as cyan is available to you, you will need to downgrade, reset, restore... the fix for 8.1dp is not coming anytime soon (maybe never). Therefore, wait for the official update. I know, the carriers are very slow but if you made it this far without 8.1, i'd definitely wait a little bit more and update your phone... hassle free.
No one knows yet if 8.1 DP Update 1 will actually allow users in dp to get cyan unless you can redirect me to an article that clearly states it. Update 1 was on MS roadmap way before the "bitlocker issue". It brings new features, but i doubt it fixes the issue with Cyan for DP. I hope to be wrong though.
