To echo what the OP said, I too, as of last Saturday, October 26, 2013, became a happy Surface 2 user. For me it was a variety of things. First, my IPAD HD had been responding rather sluggishly since upgrading to IOS 7, specifically in the area of connectivity. With the announcement of the IPAD AIR it became obvious that apple was going to push the newer hardware and A7 chip for everything the could. I went to best buy and they offered me 295 for my IPAD, so it was an easy decision.
As to why I enjoy the surface, well it is pretty simple. Having a tablet with a flash-enabled web browser means being able to stream movies without the need for an app, which often provides more options and a better interface than the app version. Being able to watch youtube videos without any issues, from youtube itself, was also something I enjoyed. Physically the device is solid, sleek and good looking. I prefer my touch cover 2 typing for anything that requires real work. Office included was a nice touch, as was 2 years of 200GB of Skydrive storage, plus 2 years of Skype premium which effectively makes my Surface 2 a Wi-Fi phone.
I mainly used the ipad as a web surfing, music listening and movie streaming machine, with just a tiny amount of time spent playing the games I purchased for the ipaD. Turns out, I can use the Surface 2 and get the same experience with a newer device, processor, etc, while not spending 900+ dollars. I am sure many folks will go on and on about app support and perhaps for them, this is an important issue. For me, most of the important apps exist, or the web site works and as far as games go, I have consoles for gaming and almost never use any of my mobile devices for gaming. Except for the solid Microsoft Solitaire game which features some pretty addictive daily challenges.
