I miss Photo Gallery and Movie Maker

Two programs that are specifically indicated by Microsoft not to be available on Windows RT are Photo Gallery and Movie Maker. I use both of these programs regularly on my PC and wish there were equivalents on my Surface RT. When I travel I usually spend the plane ride editing, tagging and organizing photos or editing video clips on my laptop. Does anyone know of RT apps that can serve those functions, particularly tagging photos? Any word on whether Microsoft will release an RT version of these programs?

I also hopes an RT version of Movie Maker comes out soon. I know this product refresh means a lot of old favs have to be reprogrammed from scratch but I hope the entire Windows Essentials pack is available soon.

I received a response from Microsoft Community on how to tag photos in Windows RT. It is not as elegant as Photo Gallery but it works until someone creates a better photo app.

Question
can i tag new images in windows 8 rt?

Reply
yes. desktop classic explorer/libraries view. extra large icon and details pane.

i really hate some of the "answers" I see on answers.microsoft.com How they can type some of that **** with a straight face is beyond me. That is not a solution, that is a kludge and they know it.

I just wish they would be more honest in their responses. There is nothing wrong with admitting a product is inferior and needs work. It si the first step of addressing the problem. Telling you to bust out explorer is arrogant, especially when MS wants everyone to use Windows 8 style apps.

I really hate when people spew arrogant blather because they 1) cannot be bothered to click on a link, and 2) do not like an answer given by someone who is NOT A MICROSOFT EMPLOYEE. MVP means a person does not work directly for Microsoft. The person is an independent professional who applied for the classification with Microsoft. Some MVPs are good and some are bad but regardless of that, whenever they post, they do so as individuals. They do not speak for Microsoft. In addition, just because it is a Microsoft site does not mean it will be free of stupid answers or even otherwise good answers you do not like. It is an open forum and anyone signed in can post a response.

That a Microsoft engineer did not understand the question is something about which one can be critical, although I have yet to meet many software engineers from any company who can answer non-technical questions. The simple fact an individual posted something on a Microsoft forum you do not like is no more a failing of Microsoft than people posting stupid things here is the fault of WPCentral.

For those who want to see an additional explanation from the person regarding tagging and the photo app, her personal blog (Barbs Connected World) discusses it further. Actually, going to her site will also make it amply clear that she does not work for Microsoft and is not a mindless mouthpiece for them.

MVPs are required to agree to refrain from disparaging remarks re Microsoft and its products. If you had ever been one you would know. This does in effect make them complicit/mindless mouthpieces for MS. Providing an honest opinion about the pathetic state of some of their current products could be construed as disparaging, but it would be the truth.

I have been using Photo Gallery via Remote Desktop to tag and organize my photos until a better alternative comes along. BTW, I have been please with Fotor app for basic photo editing on Surface.
