I need a "For Dummies" explanation.

Alright, I've been jailbreaking iPod Touches and iPhones for years. I've been reading about unlocking wp7 for months and I just can't seem to grasp the concept. I see different instructions everywhere, and I've been afraid to do it, because I don't know what I need and what I don't. So hopefully, this will help, because I really want to test apps I program in C# on my phone.

I've got a Verzion HTC Trophy running Mango (7720)
I've never modified it in anyway. (Yet.)

How do I developer unlock it so I can deploy apps from it, without paying a hundred bucks? I've tried the DreamSpark route, but I have no access to a .edu email, so that's just not working out for me. ><;

If you are running Mango, and don't want to pay for a developer account, then I believe you are out of luck. Unless you install a custom ROM, which would be unlocked/accessible.

An inexpensive tool to allow app sideloading is supposed to be imminent, but not sure about C+ apps. Won't let you install anything that touches the registry.

You are not out of luck! Just wait for the chevron unlocking tool to be released soon. It will cost $9.99
