Wife didn't want to get a new contract, so I bought her a 635 when it was on sale for $39. Damn nice phone for the price! Battery life is awesome. She got about 2.5 days out of the first charge. That's with me setting it up/installing apps and with a good amount of use afterward. GPS doesn't seem to heat the phone up like the old 920 either. Honestly, if the camera had a flash, I might've opted to get one myself. I doubt it will take a lot of abuse, but for $39 ....heck.

I wish these things were back on sale. Can't pay $60~$70 knowing I just bought it for $39 :(

But $ 60-70 for the experience you just described is not a bad deal :)

I bought mine the day or 2nd day they came out on tmobile. I didn't do a ton of research, just knew I needed a new phone and this one certainly fit the budget, and I wanted to try WP. I didn't know prices dropped like that, so mine is $168, but it's not so bad, especially since it is spread over 2 years, so I can pay the rest when I'm done with school, plus I LOVE my phone. I guess it's worth the cost to have discovered WP. :)

I have been highly critical of WP in the past (and it has and does deserve it) but the 635 is an all right device as long as you don't expect much "smartphone-ness" out of it. It is not a pocket computer like an iPhone or an Android, but is a dependable little sidekick that can tackle the light communication tasks you might throw at it.

For me the best part is that it is NOT Google and all the privacy invasions that come with Google. I know that OneDrive is basically a direct link to the NSA, but I have never had MSFT steal all my pics then upload them to a bogus social network without my permission.

I like my 635 and just bought a nifty new case for it; I see WPs everywhere now and it makes me proud to be a WP owner.

I paid $129.99 at the Microsoft Store for mine in July and I think it was a bargain at that price. Coming from a 3.5 year old Android phone it is so much faster and the UI is a joy to use. This is a great little device!

Having come from the 520 (BTW which I completely re-did after getting the 635) both phones are awesome for the $.
I really could care less for any iPhone or Android flagship.

What i like about these phones is the OS and the size...easy to configure and use.
As for the 635 was it worth the $40 upgrade (extra purchase) over the 520..... YES...now I have 2 capable phones.

The 635 give me much better battery life and display. The Snapdragon 400 quad eliminates issues with lag and fixes BT.
The phone feels great in the hand and is just enough bigger (half inch taller more screen) to make it easier to hit the right button especially when typing.

My goal is to always MAXIMIZE offline capability of these devices to go along with my fold out solar charger if needed.

Here is my offline list of APPS that I have on BOTH phones:

Offline Wikipedia
Offline Maps (US, Canada, Mexico) for HERE Drive etc
Nokia Mix Radio with OFFLINE sets
POKI with offline pockets from websites or videos
NextGen RSS with offline subscriptions
NaviComputer with OFFLINE nmaps of region (entire scales)
Advances English Dictionary with 400,000 offline entries
Bing Translator with every offine pack
Calculator2
GPS Calculator Pro

So even without any service both phones are very capable devices
Both are amazing for the $40 each I paid.

The 653 is solid enough I do not feel the need for any case even though I bought a Fosam...which I do use on my 520.

The 635 has 16GB used on 32GB SDcard and 4.5 used out of 8 on phone
The 520 has 13.5 GB used out of 16GB SD card and 2.75 used of 8 on phone

Ok, loaded question, but i gotta ask. How is it poor in the "smartphone-ness" and not a pocket computer like an iphone or an android? I've used all three platforms and find them all very similar in what they can do.

I was wondering the same thing. Coming from Jelly Bean, the 635 seems much better. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing a thing compared to my iPhone and Android friends. They often "show off" features that I've already got.

Wife has dropped it twice in the last week, both times on hard flooring and its taken out like a champ. No case, btw. It's gotta fit in the cute little purse/wallet thingy, ya know. Fashion over function....

I just got back from a mad trip around the mpls/stpaul metro area through downtown, suburbs, and outlying residential areas that i never even new existed picking up some Craigslist items. I thought it would be a good test for the gps on my new 635. Worked top notch. A few different times i was forced to miss a turn or two due to being caught up in traffic flow or lousy driving on my part and the 635 rerouted me perfectly to resume my trip. Have to agree again with the OP, impressed with this phone.

I agree with the positive 635 comments made here. It does everything I need and is probably the best value phone on the market these days. I really like the Sensor Core coupled with the Steps and Health and Fitness apps. My kids are all iPhone and when they play around with the 635, they are impressed.

Oh and the phone works great too. Something that ironically gets overlooked in smart"phone" discussions.

Good point. A good speakerphone was the top priority when I got a new phone because that is what I use almost every time I talk on my phone. It's kind of hard to really know, but I read that this phone had a good one, and it does. When my android was "upgraded" to jelly bean (terrible, terrible, obviously not tested enough), I learned that not only was the speakerphone now super quiet, but Google had changed something so that you could no longer "boost" the speakerphone volume (even though you still could on regular use, like music). That made my speakerphone unusable because it was so quiet. Anyway, all that to make the point that I love love love the speakerphone on the 635. I have it set on 8 out of 10 volume because I use it in an environment with a bit of background noise, but it's loud and clear.

So we can deduce the following --> The 635 can take a hit and keep on truckin' or smartphoning.... lol
I have dropped mine twice now on the streets from about 4ft and only ended up with a few corner dings...so yes and the best thing about it is the back casing is easily replaceable and cheap $$!
