In Awe...How on earth did they design their phones?

I stumbled across this site that was showcasing people's various Start Screens and I just was in awe of how creative and unique some were.

I find it hilarious that we wp users are often bashed because we can't customize to the extent of android or IOS but these windows phone start screens are amazing. I had been saying i wanted to personally organize my Surface and Lumia start screens.

How do they get the text and specific icons? Is there like an app people used?

Here are my 3 faves

Well, for the most part, the apps have their default tiles (or live tiles) enabled.

Whoa. The third idea has Windows Phone Insider. And that flashlight.

These are actually garbage compared to what some of us have done, as seen in the thread on the Windows 8 forum. No offense.

Amazing, love each of them. They put in quite a lot of effort into making them.

just spend a couple of minutes to rearrange my home screen :D not just some boring static icons in competitor's OS.
Great source of inspiration from the above links. thanks..

I am pretty new to the OS so I hope this is not a dumb question. In the second one, how did he get that Favorite contacts tile? I looked on the phone and the App Store and had no luck. Thanks in advance for the info.

Go to the people hub. Create a group of contacts by pressing the "+". You can add some 20-25 contacts per group. then pin it to start

As for how it works, it is not similar in function to a Facebook group. It is closer to a list of people to follow.

If you want something close to a Facebook group, there are rooms.
