I just an unlocked AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 and I was wondering has anyone tried the Incipio charging case for it? I cant afford a 1520.3 so I have to settle for a neutered 1520. Haha.

I used a non charging Incipio and an Amzer case. No issues with taking a picture with those cases. I think you will like the Incipio. I have an Incipio case for my Lumia 925 right now.

I have the Incipio PMA case for the 1520 and have had it for a few months now.

Here are my honest thoughts:

  • This case is a tight fit, so it's really snug, there is NO FEAR about it slipping or moving
  • It adds bulk to the phone, but honestly, it makes it feel.... right. Like it is TOO thin without it and with it, it's right
  • It adds some weight to it as well, but not enough to make it feel bad
  • The phone is MUCH easier to hold
  • The charging time is pretty good. I have a couple Duracell PMA mats that work well.

The ONLY issue I have with it, is when you take it off the charging mat, the battery indicator will (most of the time) show that it is still charging.

This is just a minor thing, when you plug in a USB cable, it will still charge so I think this is just an indicator issue than something that will keep it from charging because at some point, it knows it's not getting a charge and the battery indicator does still show accurately when it is not charging and gives an accurate reading.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Awesome. Thanks. Can it be used with a Nokia wireless charger?

Sweet. How long does it take to charge?

It charges very well. I use a few of my old L920 pads. The phone detects the charge and the lift off the same way my L920 did with the built in Qi charge.
The 1520 has a big battery so it does take longer than the 920 to charge. The battery shows the charge rate is equal to my direct USB charger most of the time.
The trick is that the 1520 is so much bigger than the 920, it really over shadows the original Qi pad.

Because the Qi film coil actually plugs into the USB port, the phone thinks a USB charger is connected. The phone automatically prompts if the "USB" charger is recharging the phone slow. I haven't ever got that prompt with Qi film coil (but I have on a few cheap USB chargers).

I prefer that over PMA as I don't feel certain about PMA as I used QI on a Nokia Lumia 920 that I owned.

Which is better QI or PMA?

Just depends really. I have both (as I have and still use my Lumia 920 with Qi). They both do the same thing and honestly, it really depends on implementation and availability.

I find that PMA charging pads and accessories to be more widely available in retail than Qi and cheaper too. However, there are some cars that have Qi built into them so that is nice too.

In the end, no one can really answer that question for you, but you need to look at the overall landscape and see what fits you the best. I have both but if *I* was to choose with having both, I would choose PMA over Qi.

I use the Incipio charging case for my 1520, and recently got two of the double-sized Duracell PMA charging mats via Amazon really cheap, less than $20. I like the feel. The charge time is a bit slower than using the cable, but it is really convenient to use wireless charging.
