Internet explorer grief

I have been having problems with clicking on a link inside a website that requires a password. After I log in, I click on a pdf to download and the link opens in another tab and logs me out of the web page. I get an error message stating that I have not logged in on the new tab. Anyone with the same problems? It seems that clicking links within pages that require passwords open in new tabs, but the original log in credential is not passed on in the new tab. Should I just use UC browser?
