Is landscape orientation in start menu coming for WP?

This would be easy. The tiles don't even need to rearrange, just turn it sideways, the tiles remain exactly the same, but the icons and text rotate. Easy.

That's how the Surface Tablet works... maybe as MS moves forward with getting the PC/Phone/Tablet to look and function more the same...they'll improve on that... functioning the same part?

You can't just rotate text. What about wide tiles? They would be tall tiles instead, plus many apps have images that would work tall.

You most certainly can rotate text... 90 degrees of rotation is the simplest in fact... on the windows surface tablets all of the content of the tiles rotates in place. That behavior is built in. The orientation of tile does not change... i.e. wide tiles do not become tall- length and width do not swap in relationship to tile content. They stay wide tiles. Tiles maintain their position and size what changes is the scroll axis length. On the phone surface the only matters you will need to deal with is the scrolling axis and when a image is selected for transparent tiles...

For the scrolling axis the question is does the OS re-place the tiles to scroll horizontal vs. vertical or like the surface tablet keep in place along the same vertical axis? It would be nice to see them re-position along the longer axis in landscape mode, otherwise what's the point of having landscape?

For the image as a background for transparent tiles, the question is what happens when you reach the edge of the image... would the background rotate with the change in orientation? or stay the same? Depending on the background image this could pose some ugly looking side effects. Like an image edge in the middle of a tile.

But as MS has decided it's just easier to make the orientation static. Which really is the case on the surface tablet.. You move from Landscape to Portrait and the tiles rotate in place but the vertical and horizontal tile position scrolls stay the same... you just get shorter left-to-right scroll bar when in Portrait. The tiles do not re-position along the longest axis (this why a portrait orientation of the tablet start screen... is rather useless).

Anyway, there's nothing technically impossible here. It's just a matter of doing it.

I would love to see an option where I can have two layouts set-up for my WP, both portrait and landscape. Sometimes, I just like holding my phone in landscape orientation yes iOS and Android don't do it, but, like others, I feel the WP home screen is suited well to something like this.
