Is the 950XL really Dual Sim Dual Active

Excellent, now hopefully they come back in stock soon, it's a must buy for that!

950 is Dual Standby, not dual active. So i guess the XL will be dual standby too

I see there still isn't a conclusion. Can you or can you not receive a call on each SIM simultaneously?

I've played with the Dual Sim in the 950XL pretty extensively. And I will be going to Panama tomorrow and putting a non-AT&T SIM in slot 2 for data.

I like it. It offers a lot of choices and configurations. Note that only one of the SIMS can be considered the "Data Connection SIM", but it is easy to switch back and forth. And whichever SIM is not the data SIM is still alive, but not at LTE speed or function. It can SMS and support phone calls though.

My only complaint is that I find the 1520 and the 640 to get a better (stronger) LTE signal than the 950XL. Especially compared to SIM #1 in the 950XL (The one at the bottom of the phone) Usually I get at least 1 more bar and a much quicker lock onto LTE with both of my backup phones. So I end up using them as Hotspots instead of the 950XL.

I'm disappointed that VVM doesn't work with AT&T and dual SIM though. Not a deal breaker for me, like it is for others, but a bummer since the SIM I keep in the 950XL is my primary phone number. (Corporate issued) My other SIMS are my family plan with 40 GIG rollover, so they are the data SIMs and background SMS.

Love this phone though! It's nice and settled in and no longer running a bunch of background eco system syncing tasks. So it never gets warm or pulls too hard on the battery now. You gotta give these things a few days before you make final judgment on what "living" with the phone will be like. Especially if you have a few years of stuff in the cloud.

I like the dual sim too although I haven't been able to really test it yet.

My only issue is network speed... I switched from a Verizon Lumia Icon where I was getting well over 10 Mbps down and 3 up most of the day... Now with the unlocked 950xl on ATT I'm only getting 2.5 down and .5 up... Slow!!! Is it the 950xl or is it ATT that is so slow? I might test out a Tmobile sim later this week.

I'm not sure about it being AT&T vs another carriers LTE.

I only know that at the office, where LTE is very strong (Hobby Airport Houston)

Having shown this, at home, where I live "very rural", my LTE drops to 4G on occasion with the 950XL and struggles to get back to LTE.
And it drops to 3-5 mbps too.
Ironically, both the 1520 and 640 are stable on LTE and get sometimes twice the throughput as the 950XL. Thus, at home, I make the throwdown 640 my Hotspot for the 950XL. Crazy, in a way. But hey, it gets the job done.

Wow that's crazy fast over there in Houston. Here in Scottsdale I just ran 2 tests (both connected to LTE)...

950XL w/ ATT sim...

It's one of those slow times of the day here right now. But the 950XL w/ ATT is still a lot slower than the Verizon Icon.

On cricket which is att but throttled a bit, I just measured 7.8 up and down.

Lumia 950XL in us in dual standy. I am testing it right now. I have Tmobile configured on Sim1 and ATT on sim2. if I receive call SIM1 i wont be able to do anything related to SIM2. However there is smart dual functionality that we can use to forward calls from SIM2 to SIM1 or the otherway around.

The real issue is since we can configure data only toone sim. So for me if i receive call on SIM2 there is no data any more.

Ok, thanks for that, that helps a lot. I guess for me it will be OK since both SIMs for me will be on the same ATT network, just for a business and personal line in the same share plan. I understand VVM doesn't work, but regular VM will work for a call coming in if one SIM is already in a call right?

Anyone notice that you can't use two sims working on a different network frequency? One of the sims won't have reception

Reading this thread got me wondering how fast LTE was on the 950 XL...well, here we go:

First try...and no it was not on WiFi. I happen to have a strong signal next to my work...the tower is right outside (800 feet?) my office window. Not sure if it's an AT&T tower but I would think so. Our office has 50 Mbps (both up and down) so my 950 XL is faster than the fiber we have at the office. :)
