Is the Type Cover supposed to Wake the SP3?

I have a dark blue Type Cover for Surface Pro 3 from Best Buy, is it supposed to wake the SP3 from connected standby when I open it? It doesn't currently, and I was under the understanding that it would.

Does it do this for anyone else?

Mine does not. I have to tap the button on top. There may be a setting for that but I have not looked.

Interesting. I would like it to wake when I open it, just like a laptop. It sleeps when I close the cover.

I had that same thought about how the SP3 would work because that is how Connected Standby works on the Surface 2. It didn't work that way for me on the SP3 and if you read through the downloadable user guide for the SP3, it does make it clear that closing the keyboard cover shuts off the screen, but opening the cover does not turn it on, but tapping the power button does. I'm guessing this has something to do with how the SP3 goes into hibernation after four hours idle.

Yes, it is supposed to wake up the device. The "Type/TouchCover not waking the Surface" has been an issue going back to the first gen. It has affected every generation, both Pro and non-Pro devices. Sometimes a refresh will correct the issue... until the next monthly update.

My Surface 2 reliably wakes up when I open the cover. As for the Surface Pro 3, there may be an issue as you say, but I'll just report what the User Guide says (pages 18 and 19): in an explanation of the power states, InstantGo is initiated by closing the Type Cover 3, while waking is a matter of pushing the button.

I just hit any button on the keyboard to turn it back on. I'd rather have it turn on when I open it but sounds like it's been an ongoing issue.

I just touch on the touch pad or swipe up... works for me.

Opening it just triggers the backlighting as far as I can tell.

I don't think it's supposed to.
