Is there a way to keep Pandora, NPR, etc. playing after my screen turns off from time-out?

I'm guessing there is a setting that I've overlooked, but perusing through the settings and changing them appear to have no effect. Is there a way to keep Pandora playing even when the screen is off? Right now, the music stops playing when the screen turns off (either from time-out, or manually turning it off). I have a SP4 with i5 processor, if that matters.

In battery saver settings did you try to set this app as Always run in background?

Nope, I banged my head against the wall for a week trying to figure it out with Spotify to no avail.

I can get Groove Music to continue playing while the screen is turned off, but not Spotify.

I like the Surface Pro 4, but there are a lot of things about it that really grate on me (this problem, awful battery life etc).
