Is there a Work Around for Playing Music from External Drives?

Has anyone found a way? Evidently, Groove will only play music from playlists, OneDrive sync, and locations you specify, see: Choose where we look for music from within the program. It will not play any music from my WP if I have it connected to the PC, or any external drive source with music. To not have the ability to just open a music file from any location and start playing in Groove is very, very disappointing.
