Maybe it's the heat, but my screen is discolored around the edges and in the center. A yellowish tint I can see whenever the screen goes white. It does get very hot when I'm plugged into the ciggy adapter, and running Waze. I could've lived with this issue, but having checked that I still had a couple of weeks left on the L920's warranty, I sent it in for repair.

I was going to borrow an Android or iPhone, but at the end of the day I decided I didn't want to change up my daily phone workflow - seeing my stock updates, weather for two cities, next appointment, mail/text message counts in a glance. That, and having Cortana/Bing pull up information for me quickly among a slew of other things. I opted to pick up the L520 - it was cheap, proven, and most of all capable of running WinPho 8.1.

I gotta say, it's a bit weird going back to a normal sized phone - normal in the sense that it is about the same size as the smartphones I've used in the past. Still, it's pretty slick. Immediately after powering on, I started the updates all the way up to the latest 8.1 patch. I gotta tell ya - it sucks. It sucks only because I've lived with the L920 for so long, and I expect my WP to zip through one menu or app to the next quickly. It's not the L520's fault - it's because I've been spoiled with better hardware. Even though 8.1 did make the L920 run with some lag, it did an even bigger number on the L520. I only have to live with it for another week. Another week where starting up the camera from the off position to catch a moment takes about 10+ seconds. Another week where I hold down the Search key, and Cortana needs about 8 seconds to load up and listen to me. Another week of random freezes. Another week of a meh camera, and the lack of a front facing camera. Another week of just waiting for my L920 to come back.

For now, the L520 with its lagginess and buginess reminds me what it must be like for a good number of Android users. I will still recommend the L520 to new users as I had before, but never with the 8.1 update. When they roll out the official update, I really do hope they iron out the kinks and performance issues especially for this little guy.

On a side note, how do I roll this little guy back to 8.0 - is it possible?

Ah, I felt similarly toying with my sister's 521 since I have a 920 myself.

It's possible to roll it back to 8.0, but you'll need to do some instruction following. I think there is some information somewhere...

I think the nokia software recovery tool lets you do that. Why dont you Bing(or google) " rolling back to wp8 from wp8.1"?
