Windows Central Question

Just gone 3am here and I watched as my Lumua 640 applied latest udate. However, once complete, it's now essentially (but not quite) a brick.

Almost all the tiles have vanished, leaving only the Call and Message tiles. Most significantly, however, when I press "All Apps" or swipe left, there is nothing but a blank screen where the full apps list should be. No settings, no nothing. Completely blank.

Powering down and removing battery does nothing. Also, when I restart the phone, I seem to re-receieve notification of every message I have ever received.

This is a disaster!

Any ideas?

If this was a Windows Mobile 10 update, be patient. Sometimes there are background processes that happen after an update to reinstall apps etc.

Worse case, you can reset the phone (although this will loose app data) and restore from a backup. Settings/About/Reset phone.

My 640 has a screen problem, with all double exposure images of tiles and also on icon page. I can manage to determine where to click, but it is obviously a mess. Also could not use browser with my data plan after the new win 10 update.

Called T-Mobile tech support for the 640 and we did a factory reset. That means it reinstalls the latest windows 10 OS again. You can not unintall whatever is on there and go back to an earlier version of Win 10, which worked perfectly, or to win 8.1 for example. So, factory reset is not a factory reset, it is just a new install of the OS version that most recently was installed.

Well, after all that and updating all the apps I still have the same double image-ghosting problem on the tile screen and on the app list screen. But, I can use the browser again with my data plan when wifi is turned off or not available.

T-Mobile decided to send me a new phone. I am supposed to have it in 5 days and I'm sure it will have Win 8.1 on it. I will update to whatever is the latest Win OS version.

Other than this current glitch I love the phone, it's look and feel and wish there was an android emulator on it so I could run android apps, Uber Partner app or Rider app as examples.

I know that it is supposed to be easy for android developers to port over android apps on Win 10 mobile, but most developers are not/or have not yet done so.

I had similar issue after updating my OS from Win 8.1 to Win 10 on my AT&T Lumia 640. No issue right after the update, but encountered the double exposure images or flickering after playing around the Personalization features. I think the issue is with one of these features - background image, color, "show more tiles" or one of the combination. After a few trials, managed to get the home screen back to norm - with only 2 columns of tiles shown (vs default of 3 column). All tiles on 3 columns were moved to the bottom of first 2 columns.

Another issue that I encountered is that all updates and new apps install from store failed - not sure if it is network issues or OS issue. There are 26 updates pending and each of them failed to be downloaded.
