Line In Recording

I just tried recording from a lapel mic through the headphone jack and failed. Is the headphone jack not also a mic jack?

I have a wedding coming up and was going to use an rca--3.5mm cable to record the speeches from the DJ's RCA output but my lumia doesn't seem capable of recording line-in with a recording app. This came as a huge shock... am I doing things wrong? Im using "Minirecorder".

Any help is much appreciated.

The phone jack is not a simple one it has 4 "channels" because it's meant to be used with a headset. Anyway i don't know if the os will let an app record from a mic in that jack

That won't work, it would only work with those headsets with a mic built in.
(and even then it may not work due to there being two major standards and Apple using its own) but on the plus side, i think all second gen Lumia's are compatible with the two, just not Apple gear.
