Locked front screen

Hi
I've managed to smash my screen and will be buying a replacement. At the moment, I can't access the front screen at all as one of the numbers of my passcode is on the smashed part of the screen. The screen doesn't rotate like it would if the phone was open as per usual. Is there a way of accessing the phone without touchscreen? Maybe by connecting it to a PC?

Apologies if this is a dumb question - I am a borderline luddite!

Can you see the screen contents?
If yes, try to tap that smashed number at various spots, you may be trying to tap it in the center, try to tap on any corner, if you know what I mean.
it may be a stupid exercise, but could get you results.
