Hi guys Im really enjoyng my sp2 but i have an issue.....
Today for fun i played like 40 min of diablo 3 and i got a desktop message that told me that my ram was low and to close d3, not only this, my sp2 was REALLY REALLY HOT and battery got down from 72% to 42%( i think this is normal but only in 40 min is meh ).
i have the 128gb version.
for the sake of the 3d i had not anything running in background.

I only have the original SP but whenever I would play Fifa13 I would get the same symptom. A few MS updates helped with performance and cooling so hopefully you will receive something on the SP2 that helps.

obviously i dont pretend to play games on this that require a lot out of the system(like lets see watchdogs when it comes out?) diablo 3 is not an incredible game resources wise i dont know why it happens!
and btw is normal that the battery drains so much? 40 min 30% battery i think is a little too much!

The game requires 2GB of RAM... your Intel integrated graphics uses your RAM as well.. plus you have Windows.. not to mention any background programs you might have... this might explain your low in memory message. Note: I don't have a SP (1 or 2), nor the game.

i have read in another forum this problem as well with a 8gb ram sp2.... i think the problem is with windows 8.1 and is management of ram, i thinl 4gb ram is plenty for almost all recent games, they are application at 32bit anyway.

im more concerned as of now with the fast battery drain, anyone know IF i use the sp2 attached with the battery charger is bad for the battery life? or could be fine?

For low battery, it could be that the game have no frame limit. Meaning that the GPU will draw as fastest as possible... even if it's 500fps in some menu... in other words the GPU is always under 100% load. A problem that StarCraft 2 had a while ago. You can try and enable V-Sync in the game, and see how that goes.. that would be my guess. But it is normal for a game to reduce drastically battery performance.

You can have your Surface Pro 2 plugged in, while you play, of course. However,
If the battery is hot, heat kills lithium ion and poly battery. It accelerate the oxidation process within the battery. A bit warm where the batteries is fine.
Also, leaving the battery charged at 100% all the time, is also bad for the battery. You want the battery to be between 40 to 80%. However, sadly, the Surface Pro 2, like the majority of laptops and ultrabooks and tablets, have no "disable recharge" option. Some business class system have it. But companies don't like to implement it, as you always have people accidentally doing the keyboard shortcut to enable that mode, or forgets that they turn it on, and freak out when the battery isn't charged.

Casually gaming on it, should not, I don't think, be an issue for the SP2 if you wonder, even if the battery is 100% charged. But keeping it at 100% for 3 months.... not so good.
