I am looking at changing over to T-Mobile because Cricket does not support internet sharing. I was reading that there were some issues getting ICS working on T-Mobile on the 1520 but all the posts were in 2013.

I am just curious if this is still an issue or if it is fixed with something as simple as APN settings.

Thanks!

ICS? I'm really not familiar with that. Could you write out what that abbreviation stands for?

I know what APN is - the values required for cellular data (internet connection). I know what MMS (multimedia messaging service) for picture text is and AWS (advanced wireless service) for 3.5G. All of those are proved working...

Yes the issue still persists with Cyan, Denim might make it worse since it brings carrier profile options with it

Gah. That is crazy disappointing. Seeing that putting in a Cricket SIM completely removed the ICS tab in settings was bad enough. I may just have to downgrade to 8.0. Really disappointed that Microsoft is following suite and killing one of the best parts of Windows Phone.

If that is the case though I might as well stay with Cricket and 10gs of 4g without ICS for the cost Tmobile would charge for 3.5 gigs at 4g.

I have an AT&T lumia 1520 that I bought new and unlocked.
I used nokia software recovery tool to flash 8.1 to it, then signed in and set it up.
I never changed a single APN setting, and internet sharing just works.

EDIT: it might be worth going to a T-Mobile store and seeing if an employee would let you try their SIM in your 1520 to see if tethering will turn on

Ah, did you flash an unbranded ROM? That may very well be the trick. I didn't even think of that.

I re-flashed the ROM that was meant for that phone because its quicker and more reliable than having the phone update OTA.
But Internet Sharing works on the AT&T ROM with no extra effort, as long as it's running windows phone 8.1 and above. (dev preview works, we'll see about denim)

AT&T locks down their phones anyway so you cant flash them with anything but AT&T firmware.

I am using the ATT RM-940 variant. I am on T-Mobile and using ICS right now typing this on my Surface. Never had an issue with ICS.

I have an unlocked att 1520 on Tmo with no internet sharing issues. I use it all the time.
My only issue so far and it is resolved now was the APN settings. It took some trials and error to get it right.
