So I'm a long time iPhone user but it got really boring to me and I'm not a heavy user and I don't need such an expensive smartphone (iPhone 5). Now I'm looking to sell it and get a lumia 520 or lumia 800 for less than a third of a price. Now I would like to know which do you think is better?

The 800 runs on WP 7.8, so the updates and support is going to be limited. The 520 runs on WP8 and will get much more support besides the coming updates that we know about.

Of the choice, you should definitely get a 520 if only because it runs Windows Phone 8. That means your phone is guaranteed for updates for at least 36 months from the launch of WP8. The 520 is the most popular Windows Phone at the moment. It feels great in the hand and the performance is excellent.

Having owned both, I recommend the 520. The 520 is close in physical size to 800 but with benefits of WP8. Differences are the storage is lower on 520 but it does have a micro SD input to expand storage. Also, camera is supposedly better on 800, with flash, but you won't notice any real difference. I prefer the 520 as it feels better and lighter, plus doesn't have the slightly blue tinted screen of the 800.

Note that the 520/521 does not have a compass. So if you are the type that gets annoyed by any maps app not aligning with the direction you are facing.... Also no augmented apps such as city lens.

I was using a Lumia 800 but just bought a 520 so that I could play around with WP8 and not drop a lot of money on a device since I am still under contract. The 520 is definately not as nice as the 800 in almost every way. However, the 800 does have 7.8 on it and many apps and features are not there. It also runs a just a little slower since it is a 1.4 ghz single core processor vs a dual core 1ghz. The 800 is heavier, but feels like you can play baseball with it, the 520 feels cheaper, because it is. The 520 lacks gorilla glass, compass, camera flash and capacitive buttons do not light up + has an inferior camera (but is a lot better than expected).

If I was in your position, I would go with the 520 for now because its a WP8, but know that you will want to upgrade it to one of the higher end devices in the future.

Also, the 520 has a removable battery, microSD card slot and 8GB storage. The 800 has a fixed battery, no microSD slot and 16GB storage.
