Hi,
currently I'm using an old Lumia 920 running WM10 preview. It takes about 7 seconds just to unlock my phone, because the touch doesn't work directly on the lockscreen after pressing the Standby button. Now I'm looking for a budget device, because I don't want to throw away my money for mostly whatsapp usage. I made the experience, that a budget WP is more stable than a budget Android. So I have to decide between Lumia 550 and 640, since in my country they have similar prices.
Things I need to have:
- stable WM10 (Without those 7 seconds to unlock the phone, no sensor issues etc.)
- WhatsApp should open fast (it takes 1-4 unreliable seconds on my L920, and for comparison, about 1 sec on a Galaxy S3)

Further information is also welcome and I'm looking forward to the answers. Thanks!

640 has the better specs and you have the option to stay on windows phone 8.1 or upgrade to W10M

Have you tried restoring your L920 to WP8.1 and then going back to W10M? The L920 is no longer eligible for the slow and fast rings but there is a third option called 'Insider Release Preview' which appears to be a more stable version. I've been testing it out and it appears more stable and fast then the old fast ring version I was using before W10M's official release.

Also, it doesnt sound like you're mainly interested in a stable phone for calling and whatsapp. So why not go back to 8.1 and stay on 8.1? The Lumia 920 is still a beast on 8.1. It runs smooth and has a constant performance. Something you dont get on an Android.

I'm thinking of trying it, but don't have any hopes, since my L920 had problems since day 1. I'm pretty sure that with all the bugs I encountered on my Lumia, every other guy would have thrown it away xD I also find Groove music more reliable than the xbox music on 8.1 was. But I will try it out. Thank you!

I would take the 640, why buy that overpriced 550 flop now? but who knows, maybe next big windows update will come to sd210 phones and not sd400 ones because it is newer so must be faster somehow, Microsoft knows his business

Thank you all for your advice. My Lumia 920 is somehow broken. Even on WP 8.1, it takes ages until the touchscreen reacts. The Lumia 640 is indeed for its price an unbelievable phone. I'm surprised how much differences in WP 8.1 are between the Lumia 920 and Lumia 640.
