Lumia 950 Charging problems with MS DT-904

I cannot get my Lumia 950 to charge wirelessly from the DT-904 Wireless charger that I just got from Microsoft.

I know the DT-904 is powered, as it flashes when I press the button on the underside of the plate...

My phone doesn't have it's cover on - is there anything else I need to do?

Do I need to pair the devices?

Do I need to use the new battery I bought?

lol, I had bought a new battery and a new "genuine 950 battery cover" ....

when I put the original back cover back on, it started charging...

thanks anyway

glad it is now charging. too bad the new genuine cover did not work.
