Twice now, I have switched the Lumia 1520 on and watched it connect the the home wifi, then drop the wifi and everything else at home also then loses wifi connection. All other phones, computers and Netflix. All at the same time.

It doesn't happen when I switch on other new devices/phones - just the lumia.

Any ideas why?

Delete all Lumia saved wifi connections, then restart both lumia and router. Then, connect again.
What router you got? Seems like DHCP is disabled in router menu, so Lumia tryes getting already busy ip's

Thanks. Would that cause all other devices to drop connection too?

DHCP means router gives first free ip in home network. If disabled, router accept ip given by devices.
If a device randomly choose a already occupied ip address, router could crash or connection drops on other devices
