I signed in to Windows 10 with an alias for my windows/outlook.com account. I'm using this alias on Win8.1 and my Win8.1 phone and it's working fine.

However when I open MAIL app in new Win10 TP it ask me to add an account, if I try to add my account using the same alias as I use to login to windows it just complain this account is already added. If I try to add my outlook.com account using my outlook.com username (not the alias) it starts setup mail, but after a while it complain the account was already added and goes back to add account screen.

The windows account is connected and working elsewhere as in onedrive and photos, but not mail.

I have a theory as to why there might be problems. The windows/outlook.com account alias I'm using is a real IMAP mail account and domain (it's added to outlook.com as external account and setup as alias). I believe this might confuse the MAIL app and it's trying to connect to the mx server of the domain rather than use outlook.com ?

Any suggestions ?

Mine seems to be working fine now. It didn't at first, though. When I first opened the mail app it didn't load anything at all. I closed it and opened it a few times, but still no luck. Finally, I just left it open and did a few other things, when I checked back, it had finally loaded up correctly with all of my account information and mail. Seems to be working fine now.

I tried again today, and it was still not working. I updated windows, tried again and same. Then I found a setting under account options to turn on mail sync. Then it worked right away.

This should be on by default on with your default account, or at least present is as a question when you start mail app first time. Beeing presented with add account option, because the default one is not set to sync is confusing.
