Mail apps question?

Anyone have a clear understanding of the mail situation within windows 10 / surface pro. It has two calendars, and Two Mail programs. Are they both outlook, just one is a slimmed down version for tablets? Are the calendars syncing ( mine doesn't appear to be ). I have my email setup in mail, and outlook, and i'm getting double notifications, and double email alerts. It doesn't appear they talk to one another at all really.
