Location on my 830

Both phones running official AU .67. Both phones hard reset after official AU installation. Why would Maps be different with direction indicator?

I think instead of the Windows Version, it would be nicer to know the version of the App. Mine is 5.1606.1671.0 and on my L640, I don't have a direction indicator (compass) with Windows maps.

Version is in settings page at the bottom.

My 950 DS on 14393.67 has Maps version 5.1606.1671 NO pointer.

My 640 running 14905.1000 has Maps 5.1608.2231.0 has pointer and it moves

My 635 512mb which got AU for some reason is running 5.1608.2165.0 NO pointer

My 950 XL DS on 14393.82 is running 5.1608.2165.0 has the pointer and it moves

Have intended to use this app but my car has navigation.

Edit: My PC is running 5.1608.2165.0 with a pointer, but it is stationary. Build ver 14393.82

My 950 DS maps version: 5.1606.1671.0 --- NO pointer

My 830 maps version: 5.1608.2165.0 --- POINTER and works

...doesn't make sense to me. Also --- I feel that my 830 runs better than my 950 with the Anniversary Update.

Interesting, my PC is 5.1608.2165.0, no pointer

My 950XL, 5.1608.2165.0 (same build, in theory), pointer, works.

Both are on 14393.82, OS build-wise, at least in terms of revision numbers (obviously not the same *exact* OS).

I haven't checked any other devices in the house, might though, it's weird stuff.

I think I got the "pointer" figured out.

The map is North oriented, the pointer tells you which direction you are headed.....like a compass but it is in relation to the direction on the map, not as a live compass would point.

IE: If I face north, the pointer points to the top of the map, if I face south the pointer points faces to the bottom of the map, south. Takes thinking when you have used a live compass! LOL! But I'm sure I'm just slow....

Yeah..but the OP's issue seems to be that Maps on one of his/her phones does *not* have the orientation arrow.

Mark233, what happens when you keep selecting the location icon in the right side floating menu bar?

It also depends with the hardware, right?

I have a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series 2 in 1 and it has the direction indicator but not accurate, and upon further review it does move. I cannot find a hardware listing that shows the 2 in 1 having a compass, but it must be using something, however inaccurate it may be.

Edit: I found that it has a multi sensor of some kind, called HID sensor collection, I can't find exactlywhich sensors, but it has to know as the screen rotates if I turn it, like a phone. or tablet.

Selecting the location icon just seems to lock in my location.

Discrepancy in Maps version, and 830 running better... sounds like your 950 needs a hard reset and a start from a clean install with no backup restore. I have the 950xl and 830. 950XL just blazes past anything 830 does. Granted 950XL is better than the 950, both should be better than 830.

Are you running a lot of apps from SDcard on the 950? Do you have maps app installed on sdcard? Just seems weird that it wouldn't detect the latest version and upgrade.

I've finished hard reset (last night), no restore from backup so it's clean.
No apps at all on the SD card
