there was this bug on earlier builds of windows 10 but was resolved. if you are still facing the issue turn off back up of text messages from message settings.

perform a hard reset and check whether your device is updated to latest build

I just want to know how much data uses in comparison with other messaging apps like WhatsApp, Viber etc

if it's just text messages, then it'll use zero data. (SMS corresponds with the phone connection and is separate)

if you're talking Skype, it should be very similar since its really just bits of text going back and forth.
